The year 2021 is already beginning on a good note and this weekend we should expected multiple high level matchups across the country. We have the NIBC St. James Invitational, Catcus Classic, Battle Basketball Showcase, the Grind Session bubble, and others. Below we give you the top highly rated matchups that we can look forward to for this weekend. Multiple top-25 ranked programs will be tested this entire weekend.
#14 Ypsi Prep Academy (MI) v. #8 CBC (Sierra Canyon) (CA)
The Battle Basketball Showcase has postponed their dates from November 20th to January 9th in Dallas, Texas. The highly anticipated matchup between Michigan State commit 2022 F Emoni Bates and Ypsi Prep Academy against 2022 G Amari Bailey, 2023 G Bronny James, and Sierra Canyon will be expected to be played this Saturday night in Dallas. Fox Sports 1 is expected to televise the matchup between the two beginning at 9PM ET. Sierra Canyon will be playing in their first game since early November while Ypsi will be playing their first game since early December. This matchup is one of many top games we can expect for this weekend.
#2 Sunrise Christian (KS) v. #1 Montverde Academy (FL)
The number one and number two teams in the country will face off this Saturday night, January 9th, in Springfield, Virginia at the NIBC St. James Invitational. This matchup here will have a GEICO Nationals type of feeling and will feature many top ranked prospects. 2022 F Jalen Duren, Tennessee commit 2021 PG Kennedy Chandler, Baylor commit 2021 F Kendall Brown, Baylor commit 2021 G Langston Love, Michigan commit 2021 F Caleb Houstan, Kansas commit 2021 F Zach Clemence, Michigan State commit 2021 PG Jaden Akins, 2022 SG Dariq Whitehead, and many others are expected to hit the floor in this one. This will be a coaching battle between two of the nation's top ranked powerhouses.
#9 Oak Hill Academy (VA) v. #5 Wasatch Academy (UT)
Another top-10 highly rated matchup we can expect this weekend will feature powerhouse Oak Hill Academy and Utah powerhouse Wasatch Academy. This game here will also be apart of the loaded NIBC St. James Invitational this weekend in Springfield, Virginia and will be played on Saturday afternoon right before the Montverde-Sunrise Christian matchup. Oak Hill will be coming into this one with a 7-0 overall record and has not played since early November. Wasatch, on the other hand, will be coming in with an 11-0 overall record. Top prospects like Kentucky commit 2021 PG Nolan Hickman, 2022 SG M.J. Rice, 2023 PG Caleb Foster, 2022 PG Richard Isaacs Jr., 2022 F Josh Reed, Houston commit 2021 F Robbie Armbrester, and others will be on the floor in this top-10 matchup.
#10 Duncanville (TX) @ Waxahachie (TX)
Duncanville High School, out of the Dallas, Texas area, has made their names known once again nationally and currently ranked in the top-10 nationally, one of few public schools. The Panthers will have a huge road game on Saturday afternoon with region rival Waxahachie, who holds a 9-2 overall record currently. The Duncanville Panthers are currently 13-0 and Sam Houston commit 2021 SG Damon Nicholas Jr. is averaging 18.0 PPG while shooting 60% FG and 8.0 RPG. Waxahachie features Oklahoma commit 2021 SG C.J. Noland and will be looking to end Duncanville's 13-game winning streak this Saturday.
Central Pointe (FL) v. #16 Prolific Prep (CA)
Central Pointe (FL) currently sits in our "next five" in our top-25 rankings and ranks at number twenty-eight. The Tigers have gained noticed nationally and does have a win over #11 West Oaks Academy (FL) already under their belt. Central Pointe will be tested this weekend again in Phoenix, Arizona in the Grind Session bubble. They will face top-25 ranked Prolific Prep this Friday night. Prolific Prep is currently on a 10-game winning streak and with a 17-3 overall record. The Crew has been on fire since early December and will have their winning streak on the line this upcoming Friday in a major matchup with Central Pointe.
Centennial (CA) v. Hillcrest Prep (AZ)
Hillcrest Prep has began their 2020-2021 high school season with a 17-0 overall record. Due to COVID-19 issues, a couple high level events that they were scheduled to be in were cancelled. The Bruins currently sit in our "next five" in our top-25 at number thirty. They are expected to host the Cactus Classic in Phoenix, Arizona where they are expected to face Crestwood Prep (CAN) and Corona Centennial (CA). Their matchup with Corona Centennial will be this Saturday January 9th as part of the Cactus Classic. Corona Centennial, a program that finished in the top-25 nationally last season with a 27-5 overall record, acquired highly rated 2022 PG Dior Johnson a couple months ago. The matchup between Johnson and 2021 F Michael Foster of Hillcrest Prep should be a good one to look out for this upcoming weekend.
