The 2021 Peach Jam has officially concluded, and The Circuit would like to congratulate Director Rob Brown and Philadelphia EYBL representative Team Final on finishing 7 -1 and winning the illustrious title over Brad Beal Elite
Before Team Final captured the championship, plenty of young prospects across the league showcased their talents over the course of the 5-day event. Our team at The Circuit compiled all-event teams which can be found below, and we will be recording a podcast recapping the selections. Stay tuned for All-Event teams from the Boys E16 Division, as well as a full awards recap from the girls Nike Nationals.
Height: 6'10
Class: 2022
Team: Team Final (PA)
Record: 7-1
Statistics: 13.1 PPG, 8.5 RPG. 2.8 BPG. 2.3 APG
Jalen Duren and his teammates went into North Augusta, South Carolina with one goal; win Peach Jam. After 13 long days, they accomplished their goal, and did so with a gigantic target on their backs. The main reason? Jalen Duren's consistent production in Team Final's loaded rotation. Duren (247 No. 1) stuffed the stat sheet and showcased flashes of absolute dominance in the process, and his consistent effort for Team Final was too much for the opposition to withstand.
Height: 6'7
Class: 2022
Team: Boo Williams (VA)
Record: 2-3
Statistics: 23.2 PPG, 11.2 RPG, 3.2 APG, 2.8 SPG, 1.0 BPG
Tyrell Ward was the lone bright spot for Boo Williams in the second half of the EYBL season, as the 6-foot-7 Xavier commit was firing on all cylinders through five pool play games. The future Musketeer averaged 23 points and three assists, while also chipping in over 4 offensive rebounds per game. Ward (247 No. 52) is primed for a terrific senior year at DeMatha, and if he continues to score the ball with this type of efficiency, he will enter college as one of the best scoring prospects in the class.
Height: 6'9
Class: 2022
Team: Brad Beal Elite (MO)
Record: 6-2
Statistics: 13.4 PPG, 9.9 RPG, 2.5 APG, 2.0 SPG, 2.3 BPG
Brandon Miller's versatility was on full-display in mid-July, and it helped result in a trip to the Peach Jam championship game for Brad Beal Elite. The 6-foot-9 swingman proved fully capable of guarding the 1-through-5 positions - a trait that few prospects can confidently claim. Miller (247 Comp. No. 15) consistently put his stamp on the game defensively, averaging over two steals and two blocks over eight Peach Jam games. Brad Beal Elite had their best season ever at the 17U level, and Miller's defensive prowess deserves a lot of the credit.
Height: 6'8
Class: 2023
Team: NJ Scholars
Record: 2-3
Statistics: 17.3 PPG, 3.8 RPG, 1.0 APG, 1.0 SPG, 1.2 BPG
Mackenzie Mgbako used his time at Peach Jam to showcase that he is one of the most polished scorers in the 2023 class. Running alongside consensus 2023 No. 1 recruit DJ Wagner, Mgbako (247 Comp. No. 6) has his own hype to live up to, and he flourished under the bright lights. Mgbako averaged 17 points and four rebounds, displaying the ability to knock down jumpers, get to the basket, and consistently draw contact to get to the line. Expect Mgbako to excel at Gill St. Bernard's during the 2021-22 high school seeason.
Height: 6'4
Class: 2022
Team: Team Final (PA)
Record: 7-1
Statistics: 14.9 PPG, 4.9 RPG, 1.8 SPG, 1.3 APG
Otega Oweh played the best basketball of his life in North Augusta, South Carolina, and it resulted in he and his Team Final teammates eating peaches out of a trophy last Sunday evening. Oweh (247 No. 108) did a little bit of everything for Team Final, and his increased production after Team Final lost Justice Williams to COVID protocols was a major reason why they found success. Oweh averaged 15 points and five boards, routinely guarding the opposition's best offensive option. Usually top 150 recruits don't quality for a "breakout" award, but when a sub-100 player performs like a top 25 player in America, it is simply too difficult to ignore.
Height: 5'10
Class: 2022
Team: New Heights Lightning (NY)
Record: 4-2
The Performance: 23 PTS, 10 AST (7-8 3PT, 8-11 FG), 3 STL, 3 REB, 0 TO (25 MP) vs. Peach Jam Champion Team Final (only loss at Peach)
The New Heights Lightning enjoyed a terrific Peach Jam, with the highlight being their wire-to-wire win over future-champion Team Final. The highlight of the "highlight" game was unquestionably the offensive showcase put on by point guard Zakai Zeigler. The 5-foot-10 guard was unconscious from the perimeter, finishing the game with 23 points on 7-for-8 shooting from three, 10 assists, 3 steals, and 3 rebounds. At one point in the first half, the Lightning hit six straight 3-pointers - with Zeigler accounting for four. The best part of the effort besides getting the W? Zeigler didn't turn the ball over once.
