Updated Preseason Top-25 National Rankings

August is upon us as September approaches and that only means one thing, the high school season is creeping. 

An update on the preseason top-25 national rankings are in and these will be are first look since the "way-too-early" top-25 national preseason rankings that were released way back in March. 

A bunch of movement has been made since then and a lot of shifts have been made on a daily basis regarding the national top-25. 

Now these are not the official rankings, those will be released in early November, but this will give you an idea on where teams sit at as of today. 

1. Montverde Academy (FL)
2021-2022 Record: 25-4

Montverde Academy is the clear number one team in the country as of today, the two-time defending national champions. The Eagles have reloaded their roster once again and this seasons squad is expected to be stacked from top to bottom. 2023 K.J. Evans (Oregon), 2023 Drayvn Gibbs-Lawhorn, 2024 Derik Queen, and 2024 Amier Ali are the only returnees from last season's national championship team. Kevin Boyle and staff have added multiple elite prospects like 2023 Chris Johnson (Kansas), 2023 Sean Stewart (Duke)2025 Cooper Flagg, 2024 Liam McNeeley, 2024 Asa Newell2023 Marvel Allen (Georgetown), 2025 Ace Flagg, and 2025 Bryce Heard to their roster for the 2022-2023. The Eagles are looking to make it three straight national titles by the end of next season. An extremely star studded group. 

2. AZ Compass Prep (AZ)
2021-2022 Record: 25-5

AZ Compass Prep has earned their national recognition over the last couple of years now and the Dragons will debut in the loaded NIBC this upcoming high school season. They currently come in ranked number two in our updated national preseason top-25 rankings. The Dragons lose a bunch of guys from their group last season but have rebuilt their roster for 2022-2023. They return 2023 Mookie Cook (Oregon) and have added highly rated prospects like 2024 V.J. Miller, 2023 Zayden High, 2023 Rayvon Griffith (Cincinnati), 2024 Pharaoh Compton, 2025 Jeremiah Green, 2024 Marcus Allen2023 Trent Pierce (Missouri), 2023 Jordan Ross, 2023 Tru Washington, and 2023 Vincent Delano. The Dragons will look to continue to grow their program name in their first season in the NIBC and looking to secure a GEICO Nationals title. 

3. Link Academy (MO)
2021-2022 Record: 34-2

Link Academy has set the standard and tone putting the nation on notice last season after making their first GEICO Nationals appearance, making it to the championship game, and in their first ever high school season. Rodney Perry has moved on to the college ranks and new head coach Bill Armstrong is excited to keep the success going in Branson. The Lions lose a few guys from last season's squad but will return key prospect 2023 Cameron Carr. Link Academy has added a boat load of talent that includes 2023 Ja'Kobe Walter (Baylor), 2024 Elliot Cadeau, 2023 Cade Phillips (Tennessee), 2023 Corey Chest Jr. (LSU), 2025 Aaron Rowe, 2024 Tyler McKinley, 2024 Nate Guerengomba, and 2025 B.J. Davis just to name a few. They will certainly be one of the elite programs once again this upcoming season. 

4. Sunrise Christian (KS)
2021-2022 Record: 25-2

Head coach Luke Barnwell had Sunrise Christian as the number one team in the country for most of the season last year. The Buffaloes currently are ranked number four in the country as of today in our updated preseason top-25 national rankings. They have lost a few key guys from last season's 25-2 overall team but have gained a few key pieces in the meantime. 2023 Layden Blocker (Arkansas) and 2023 Scotty Middleton (Ohio State) will be the leaders of the core for the 2022-2023 high school season. They have added guys like 2023 Matas Buzelis (G-League Ignite), 2023 Miro Little (Baylor), 2024 John Bol, 2024 T.J. Williams, and 2025 Mikel Brown Jr. for the 2022-2023 season. Sunrise Christian will once again be a threat to win the GEICO Nationals come end of March. 

5. Roselle Catholic (NJ)
2021-2022 Record: 29-2

Roselle Catholic won the last, and maybe ever, NJSIAA TOC last season and after finishing with a 29-2 overall record. The Lions are back and will begin the 2022-2023 ranked in the top-5 nationally and as the number one team in the Garden State. 2023 Simeon Wilcher (North Carolina) will headline their roster once again and alongside new addition 2023 Mackenzie Mgbako (Duke). 2023 Sebastian Robinson will also be one of the new additions for the Lions. Roselle Catholic will also be returning major key guys like 2023 Akil Watson, 2024 Tarik Watson, 2023 Chris Pierre-Louis, 2024 Rich Brisco, and 2023 Malachi Johnson. Head coach Dave Boff and staff will be playing an elite schedule with their group this season, although there is no more NJSIAA TOC. 

6. Paul VI (VA)
2021-2022 Record: 31-5

Paul VI High School are the clear favorites right now to win the elite WCAC once again this upcoming season. The Panthers have themselves another elite group coming into the 2022-2023 high school season after surprisingly going 31-5 overall last season and also winning the VISAA state championship as well. This season's loaded group will be headlined with 2023 DeShawn Harris-Smith and 2024 Darren Harris. Paul VI will be deep and will return just about everyone from the year prior which also includes 2023 Ben Hammond, 2025 Christian Gurdak, 2024 Garrett Sundra, 2025 Jaquan Womack, and more. The Panthers have also added 2024 Isaiah Abraham and 2024 Patrick Ngongba to the roster since March. 

7. IMG Academy (FL)
2021-2022 Record: 23-5

IMG Academy finished with a 23-5 record last season in their first year in the loaded NIBC. The Ascenders were very impressive throughout last season and will be looking to be one of the top programs in the country once again. They have reloaded their entire roster for the 2022-2023 high school season. They will return 2023 Jacoi Hutchinson as the only returnee from last seasons squad. Key additions like 2024 Bryson Tucker, 2023 Jamie Kasier Jr. (Maryland), 2025 Jamier Jones, 2025 Amari Allen, 2023 Blue Cain (Georgia Tech), 2023 Jayden Hastings, and 2024 Khani Rooths have been added to the IMG roster for this season. The Ascenders will be looking to make another GEICO Nationals championship run in their second year in the NIBC.

8. Duncanville (TX)
2021-2022 Record: 35-1

Duncanville High School has been one of the most dominant public school basketball programs over the last few years now and the 2022-2023 high school season will be no different, might be even better. The Panthers are looking to capture another UIL state championship, which will be their fifth straight. They will be coming in with a loaded roster once again headlined by 2023 Ron Holland Jr. Duncanville has other key returners like 2023 Cameron Barnes, 2023 Aric Demmings, 2023 Evan Phelps, 2023 Rasaun Collier, and 2025 Kayden Edwards. They have also added 2023 K.J. Lewis (Arizona) to the roster, which adds more fuel to the fire. Duncanville is expected to have a major national schedule and sit in our top-10 updated national rankings. 

9. Camden (NJ)
2021-2022 Record: 31-3

Camden High School seems to be staying attached after going through a number or rumors this offseason regarding players transferring. The Panthers will be one of the nation's best teams and one of New Jersey's best teams once again this upcoming season. 2023 D.J. Wagner is expected  to return for his senior season with Camden. Other key returnees include 2023 Aaron Bradshaw, 2023 Cian Medley (St. Louis), 2023 Desear Haskins, and 2023 Cornellius Robinson are expected to return as well. The Panthers still plan on playing a national schedule over the course of the 2022-2023 high school season with a few elite key matchups ahead. Camden also ranks top-5 currently in the public schools only national rankings.  

10. Imhotep Charter (PA)
2021-2022 Record: 28-4

One of the best programs out of Philadelphia, the Northeast, and the entire country, Imhotep Charter should be one of the elite teams coming into the 2022-2023 high school season. The Panthers had an incredible season last year, going 28-4 overall. They were able to capture the PIAA Class 5A state championship last season and will be the favorites to once again repeat as champions. 2023 Justin Edwards (Kentucky) will once again headline their 2022-2023 roster. Other key returnees like 2024 G Ahmad Nowell2023 PG Rahmir Barno (Florida Gulf Coast)2023 SG Isaiah Kennedy2023 SG Malcolm Muhammad2023 Yahmir Satterfield, and a few others. The Panthers will be one of the best public schools programs in the country. 

11. Corona Centennial (CA)
2021-2022 Record: 33-1

Head coach Josh Giles and staff had one of their best overall seasons in 2021-2022 for Corona Centennial. The Huskies finished 33-1 overall and capturing the CIF Open Division State Championship. They will for sure be a threat again out on the West Coast and have another brutal national schedule ahead of them for 2022-2023. Centennial's roster will be headlined by 2023 Jared McCain (Duke) once again this season and they will also return 2023 Devin Williams, 2023 Aaron McBride, and 2024 Eric Freeney. The Huskies also have added 2023 Mike Price for the 2022-2023 season. Corona Centennial is a top-5 ranked public school and are coming into the season on a 30-game winning streak. 

12. Wheeler (GA)
2021-2022 Record: 25-5

One of the most and well-known basketball programs, Wheeler High School will be back as one of the nation's top programs for the 2022-2023 high school season. The Wildcats finished the 2021-2022 high school season with a 25-5 overall record. They will be bringing back their star guard 2023 Isaiah Collier for his senior season. Other key returnees include 2023 Arrinten Page and 2023 Cameron Brown. Wheeler has also added prospects like 2023 Josh Hill, 2024 Rickey McKenzie, and 2023 Jelani Hamilton (Iowa State) to the roster. The Wildcats will be representing the Peach State this upcoming season on the national stage as they will be playing a few big time out of state events.  

13. Bishop Gorman (NV)
2021-2022 Record: 30-1

One of the nation's top rated basketball programs, Bishop Gorman will be back as one of the best teams in the country for the 2022-2023 high school season. The Gaels took a heartbreaking loss in overtime in the NIAA class 4A state title game, ending their incredible winning and state title streak. They will be returning just about everyone from last season and have themselves a national schedule to prepare for. 2024 Jase Richardson, 2024 John Mobley Jr., 2023 Keenan Bay2025 Chris Nwuil, 2024 Anthony Nwuli, 2024 Ryder Elisaldez​​​​​​​, and others will be key returnees for Bishop Gorman. New additions like 2024 Quentin Rhymes and 2024 Noah Westbrook will also be apart of the roster. The Gaels will be looking forward to capturing another state title by the end of this season and a possible invite to the State Champions Invitational. 

14. Newton (GA)
2021-2022 Record: 26-6

Newton High School will be one of the best public school basketball teams in the country and representing the state of Georgia this upcoming season on the national level. The Rams finished last season with a 26-6 overall record and reaching the GHSA class 7A semifinals. 2023 Stephon Castle (UConn) and 2023 Jakai Newton (Indiana) should headline their roster once again for 2022-2023. Newton will return a few other key guys from last seasons squad and should be one of the more gritty groups across the country. They will obviously be one of the favorites to capture that loaded GHSA 7A title down in the Peach State in March. 

15. Modesto Christian (CA)
2021-2022 Record: 30-6

One of the best teams out of the West Coast, Modesto Christian had themselves a surprising run to the CIF Open Division State Championship game last season. The Crusaders finished their incredible year with a 30-6 overall record. They will be returning their star back court of 2023 B.J. Davis and 2024 Jamari Phillips. Modesto Christian will have one of the most exciting and must-see backcourts in the country for this upcoming season. Other key returnees like 2023 Prince Oseya, 2023 Jalen Brown, and 2025 Isaiah Davis will also play big roles for the Crusaders this upcoming season as they are expected to have a few key national games scheduled. 

16. Christ the King (NY)
2021-2022 Record: 15-11

Christ the King is coming into the 2022-2023 high school season ranked as the No. 1 team in the state of New York as of today and sit upon our preseason top-25 national rankings as well. The Royals have themselves a nice looking squad coming into this upcoming season, headlined by 2023 Brandon Williams. Christ the King will also have 2023 Brandon Gardner (St. John's), 2024 Qing Pang, 2025 Markell Alston, 2025 Kiyan Anthony, 2023 DeCoursey Corley, 2023 Bryce Merchant, and others. The Royals are expected to play a big time national schedule to prove their worth throughout the season. Should be one of the more exciting teams to keep eyes on. 

17. Oak Hill Academy (VA)
2021-2022 Record: 33-8

The Steve Smith era at powerhouse Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Virginia has finally come to an end after a few decades. New head coach Yerrick Stoneman, who was an assistant under Steve Smith years ago, will fill in the spot at the powerhouse school. The Warriors have cracked our preseason national top-25 rankings as of now after adding some new additions for their 2022-2023 season squad. No major names have transferred into Oak Hill Academy, but Yerrick Stoneman and staff have put together a solid looking group. Prospects like 2024 Micah Robinson, 2024 A.J. Swinton, 2024 Zion Pipkin, 2023 Joshua Holloway, 2023 Drayton Jones, 2024 Jamie Vinson IV, and others have been added to the Warriors roster for next season. 

18. Long Island Lutheran (NY) 
2021-2022 Record: 19-8

Long Island Lutheran just always seems to be in the loop someway somehow when talking about the national top-25 rankings. The Crusaders are back in the mix and will make their debut in the loaded NIBC this upcoming season. Now they have lost a few guys from last seasons 19-8 overall squad but will return 2023 Jayden Reid and 2023 Amdy Ndiaye to the roster. Long Island Lutheran has also added some fire power to complete their 2022-2023 roster with guys like 2023 Jayden Ross (UConn), 2025 Jacob Ross2024 V.J.Edgecombe, and 2023 Keenan Emmanuel. The Crusaders will for sure be one of the best teams out of New York, the Northeast, and entire country once again. 


19. Simeon (IL)
2021-2022 Record: 29-6

Head coach Robert Smith is coming into his final season with the powerhouse Simeon High School program. The Wolverines currently come into the 2022-2023 high school season ranked as the number one team out of the state of Illinois. They finished their 2021-2022 season with a 29-6 overall record while reaching the IHSA class 3A semifinals. 2023 Miles Rubin (Loyola-Chicago), 2023 Wes Rubin (Loyola-Chicago), 2023 Jalen Griffith, and 2023 Steve Turner headline key returnees for the powerhouse public school. The Wolverines have also added 2023 Sam Lewis (Toledo) and 2023 Kaiden Space to their roster for this upcoming season. Simeon will be one of the better public schools in the country once again this season and are expected to play a national schedule. 

20. SoCal Academy (CA)
2021-2022 Record: 24-4

Southern California Academy is looking to become one of the premier basketball programs in the country and made a statement during last seasons run which they finished with a 24-4 overall record and ranked in the top-10 nationally. The Rams will look to continue that success over to this upcoming season. They will have to rebuild most of their roster and have added some key prospects over the offseason. 2023 Drew Fielder and 2023 Juslin Bodo are the only key returnees from last season. New additions like 2024 Jahseem Felton, 2023 Garwey Dual (Providence), 2023 Darius Carr, 2023 Christian Hammond, 2023 Devin Curtis, 2023 Braelon Green, and others have made their way to Southern California. The Rams will be looking to make an appearance in the GEICO Nationals at the end of the season, which will be their first time in school history. 


21. Prolific Prep (CA)
2021-2022 Record: 26-7

Prolific Prep had somewhat of a surprising run during last seasons GEICO Nationals as they upset the No. 1 seed Sunrise Christian (KS) while giving Link Academy (MO) a fight in the second round before being eliminated. A new chapter starts for Prolific as Ryan Bernadi is set to be the new head coach of the powerhouse West Coast program. The Crew finished 26-7 last season and should be one of the best teams once again this season. They will return 2024 Zion Sensley2023 N'Famara Dabo​, and 2023 Ben Jenkins. The Crew has added a few key prospects that will help with their success this season. 2023 Aden Holloway (Auburn), 2023 Trey Green (Xavier)2023 Gabe Sisk2024 Paul McNeil Jr., 2023 Mike Nwoko, and 2024 Yves Missi are the new additions. Prolific Prep will be trying to make their way into the GEICO Nationals for only the fourth time by March. 

22. Donda Academy (CA)
2021-2022 Record: 23-9

Famous artist Kanye West decided to start a basketball program last season that will feature some of the best players in the country and Donda Academy made their debut last season. The Doves finished around 23-9 in their debut season and will be coming into their second year as a program. New head coach Dorell Wright is looking to lead this program in the right direction. 2023 Robert Dillingham (Kentucky) and 2023 J.J. Taylor headline their roster once again this season. Donda will also have guys like 2023 A.J. Johnson2023 Chuck Bailey III, 2023 Davious Loury, 2024 Steven Solano, 2023 Trent Lincoln, 2023 Justin Johnson, and more. The Doves already have plans to appear in a few known national events and will try to make an appearance in the GEICO Nationals.

23. St. Rita (IL)
2021-2022 Record: 23-12

The Mustangs have very high hopes coming into the 2022-2023 high school season. St. Rita will without a doubt be one of the best programs in the country representing the state of Illinois. They reached the IHSA class 4A Super Sixteen while finishing with a 23-12 overall record last season. The Mustangs will return their twin towers front court with 2024 Morez Johnson (Illinois) and 2024 James Brown alongside 2025 Melvin Bell. They have also added 2024 Nojus Indrusaitis to their roster for this upcoming season. St. Rita will be one of the more interesting teams to keep eyes on throughout the 2022-2023 high school season as they are expected to play in a few major national events. They will have their chance to climb up the national rankings. 

24. Neumann-Goretti (PA)
2021-2022 Record: 23-4

One of the best programs that will be coming out of the Northeast region this upcoming season? Philadelphia's own Neumann-Goretti. The Philly powerhouse has always been one of the better basketball programs in the Northeast and the Saints will come in as a top-25 team this season. They return just about everyone from their 23-4 team last season, which include key guys like 2024 Khaafiq Meyers2024 Robert Wright III2023 Sultan Adewale, and 2024 Amir Williams. They have also added 2024 Lorenzo Jerkins to their roster as well. Neumann-Goretti captured the PIAA 4A state championship and Philadelphia Catholic League title last season

25. The Rock School (FL)
2021-2022 Record: 25-8

The Rock School might be one of the biggest sleeper teams in this year's top-25 preseason national rankings coming into the 2022-2023 high school season. The Lions are the defending SIAA champions and finished with a 25-8 overall record last season. They will have a very talented roster from top to bottom headlined by 2024 R.J. Jones. Other key returnees like 2024 Kam Wright, 2024 Sammie Yeanay, 2023 Josh Hayes, 2023 Dallas Jones, 2023 Moses Horn, 2025 Evan Streck, and 2023 Jacob Streck will also return for the The Rock School. New additions like 2025 Clarence Fondeur-Massamba for their roster this season. The Rock will have their chance to climb up the rankings throughout the season with their national schedule.
